FULLERTON RAILROAD DAYS 2000

"Fullerton Railroad Days" will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 13, & 14, 2000. During this weekend, visitors will tour through railroad equipment parked on the station's new spur tracks, experiencing both vintage and modern railroad equipment. Experience the thrill of sitting at the controls of a giant diesel locomotive! Or, relax in the luxury of a 1949 Pullman lounge car while sipping your favorite soda. Tour Amtrak's most modern passenger equipment. Also for your enjoyment will be the US Postal Train commemorating 100 years of postal service. Additional attractions include model railroad layouts of every scale, an extensive display of garden railroads, youth and other nonprofit organizations, railroad memorabilia and hobby vendors, themed entertainment, food, and other surprises!

The event hours on Saturday are from 9 AM until 6 PM. Grand opening ceremonies will be held Saturday morning. The festivities continue Sunday morning at 9 AM with all the great railroad attractions and entertainment plus a special stage tribute to Mom on Mother's Day! The event closes Sunday at 5 PM.

Other Selected Events and Attractions

There will be tours of restored vintage passenger cars, Amtrak is planning to display the LA to LAS VEGAS high speed TALGO Train. Other equipment will be announced!

Model trains chugging around extensive track layouts will delight kids and railroad buffs alike, along with displays of historic railway artifacts from museums and collectors. A hand-pump car from Knott's Berry Farm will be on view, plus Harvey Girls memorabilia from Fred Harvey's famed diners that served passengers meals along early Santa Fe lines -- before dining cars. Bands and a Barbershop Quartet will provide musical entertainment. The booths set up east of the depot will also supply information on railroad museums, historical societies and community groups. There will also be drawings and prizes.

In addition, first- to sixth-grade students in schools throughout the city are participating in a poster contest. Drawings which best depict railroad safety rules will be displayed that weekend at the event. Winners will receive tickets for family train trips and 12 posters will be chosen for a FRPA-sponsored calendar.

Fullerton Railroad Days will be held at the Fullerton Santa Fe Depot which is located at 120 East Santa Fe Avenue in Fullerton, California. The depot is served by the Amtrak San Diegans throughout the day every day of the week making the event within convenient reach from every Amtrak station up and down the coast!
